RESUMO

Dissolution testing is an integral part of pharmaceutical development, providing drug companies with the analytical ability to determine the efficacy, bioequivalence, and bioavailability of the active drug substance, as well as control quality, stability, and consistency of the final drug product. [...]there is also a shift in focus to more novel and personalized dosage forms that is happening within the bio/pharma industry, requiring modifications to many different areas of drug development and manufacturing, including dissolution testing, Spisak added. Novel formulations can pose challenges when using standard apparatus;nanoparticles, for example, are not necessarily sufficiently separated from the dissolution medium with standard techniques. [...]modification of the instrumentation, such as that found in Agilent's NanoDis system, is required to ensure an accurate prediction of in-vivo performance of the drug product can be made.

RESUMO

Most of the literature on trust is focused on developing and building trust, and less on maintaining trust. Our basic research question is how trust between manager and employee is affected by working remotely during COVID-19 pandemic, and whether it is possible for virtual managers to find ways of communicating in order to maintain trust despite geographic distance. It is a surprising finding that all respondents have answered that cognitive trust has been maintained and not changed significantly during the pandemic. We found that it is a greater challenge to maintain affective compared to cognitive trust. It is more of a fresh and fragile product in line with Glomseth's (Trust - The foundation in management and society. Hamar Arbeiderblad, HA Debatt (h-a.no), 2020) claim of trust. Managers' digital competence is important for maintaining cognitive trust. Another finding is that it requires more from managers in terms of a conscious individual follow-up of the employees in the home office. Our findings confirm Bergum's (Management of teleworkers: Managerial communication at a distance. Turku School of Economics, 2009) findings that employees who are managed remotely need more frequent feedback and recognition than those who are managed co-located. Communication under distance management is often more task-oriented and formal. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

RESUMO

This paper examines how telework frequency has affected the usage of major communication media, and subsequently knowledge sharing, among a large sample of full-time Japanese employees with no prior telework experience during the country's fourth COVID-19 state of emergency. Results suggest that mandatory telework resulted in lower use of face-to-face meetings and phone calls;in higher use of instant messaging and virtual meetings, and that it had no effect on e-mail use. Moreover, phone call, instant messaging, and virtual meeting frequencies were found to mediate the relationship between telework frequency and knowledge sharing. These findings highlight the importance of both existing and newer communication media in offsetting the loss of face-to-face meeting opportunities. Government-mandated telework may have accelerated the adoption of new communication tools such as instant messaging and virtual meeting, which had not yet gained full acceptance before the pandemic.

RESUMO

The aim of the study is to analyze the relationship between 1) perceived organizational support from the university, and 2) student involvement in the study process described from the perspective of the concept of knowledge-sharing culture. In addition, we analyze the impact of these factors on the student's average grade obtained in the last academic year. The study presented here focuses on the interaction of the following factors: 1) perceived organizational support from the university, and 2) student involvement in the study proc-ess. The concept of the culture of knowledge-sharing is a theoretical basis for the analysis. As a result, the research explores the impact of the factors (1 and 2) mentioned above on the effectiveness of the student's academic development. Based on the literature review, it is being assumed that the culture of knowledge-sharing is built in a two-way process: on the one hand, the university is to support the students in their development, and on the other hand, students themselves are to show commitment to this process. However, the available literature does not clearly indicate the strength of the relationship or the directions of influence between the elements of the model. The study conducted to create this analysis consisted of two stages: the first was carried out in June 2019, the second in May 2020, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This allowed for more complete conclusions regarding the interaction of factors responsible for building the academic culture of sharing knowledge. Regardless of whether students work in a classroom or in an e-classroom (remotely), the results show that the basis for their involvement is the support they perceive from universities, setting ambitious tasks for them, and accompanying them in overcoming emerging challenges. The factor modifying the relationship between university support and the effectiveness of academic develop-ment turned out to be the student's involvement in the study process.

RESUMO

Talent Management plays a crucial role to support the business continuity and empower the most important asset for the company - its people. The role that Talent Management has played was highlighted in different aspects across the organization, starting from developing competent HR team and HR department structure that can influence company culture by taking an active approach in this regard. The journey started by working with the executives and stakeholders across the business to evaluate the current company culture, assess potential gaps or opportunities, and create a strategic plan to align the organization's culture with its values and goals. Moreover, a deliberate building of core and supplementary HR systems serving the business strategy while respecting culture readiness has taken place. This started off with developing leadership development programs, conducting a competency management system for better training and skills development, relying on assessment tools in recruitment and using these tools in the on-boarding, knowledge sharing approach, creating a performance management culture and working on continuous development and improvement. The Leadership Development Program was achieved on 3 phases: Assessment phase, Development phase and re-assessment phase. One of the main objectives that we tried to focus on while implementing the leadership development program was to find employees who are potential leaders and nurture them early enough. In addition, it was crucial to identify a Leadership Competency Profile to have a clear, compelling vision of how the skills we were building in the leadership development program connect to the leadership road map in the company. In addition, and in the light of Covid-19 and the absence of Employee Training in 2020, the HR department came out with an initiative to carry out internal knowledge sharing workshops across the company. These workshops aimed at increasing employees' awareness with the different functions across the company in addition to increasing the level of engagement, communication, and presentation skills for employees. There is always a need to measure where we are and the progress done so far to know where we want to be and adjust the process accordingly. Therefore throughout all of these processes and programs, different feedback surveys were conducted to take necessary action plans. This helped in getting all employees onboard with us. Ultimately the alignment that was made between the Talent Management and the overall company's business strategy resulted in the company's ability to maintain a competitive advantage. A huge progress was made but the process continues to sustain this role. Copyright © 2023, Society of Petroleum Engineers.

RESUMO

The responsibilities of leaders have grown as a result of information technology organizations' increasing reliance on information and development to carry out their work. It is important for leaders to guide and support organizations as they respond to the challenges of continually generating new innovation and information frameworks. The participative initiative, therefore, is characterized as an authority that draws on part data and part insight to reduce progressive obstructions by including individual hierarchical individuals in the decision-making process. The participative initiative encourages a positive style of leadership in which the leader provides workers with the chance to partake in dynamic and critical thinking through consolation, backing, and impact. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of participative leadership on employee innovative work behavior through the mediating role of employee knowledge-sharing attitude and absorptive capacity, with project risk management as moderator. The non-probability convenience sampling technique was used and data collection occurred over three months from January 2022 to March 2022. As data collection took place in one time period, the design is cross-sectional in nature. The data were collected from 273 workers (i.e. engineering manager, project manager, project leader, team leader, software engineer, advisor, and expert) working in different public and private sector IT companies of Portugal. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both hard and soft copies of surveys were distributed via email. The analysis was performed using Smart PLS version 3.2.8. The results revealed that participative leadership had a direct effect on employee innovative work behavior that was positive and significant. Also, both the knowledge-sharing attitude and absorptive capacity of employees positively and significantly mediate the relationship between participative leadership and employee innovative work behavior. Project risk management, however, only significantly moderates the relationship between absorptive capacity and employee innovative work behavior. Lastly, some theoretical, practical implications, study limitations and future directions were discussed.

RESUMO

The construction industry has been experiencing many occupational accidents as working on construction sites is dangerous. To reduce the likelihood of accidents, construction companies share the latest construction health and safety news and information on social media. While research studies in recent years have explored the perceptions towards these companies' social media pages, there are no big data analytic studies conducted on Instagram about construction health and safety. This study aims to consolidate public perceptions of construction health and safety by analyzing Instagram posts. The study adopted a big data analytics approach involving visual, content, user, and sentiment analyses of Instagram posts (n = 17,835). The study adopted the Latent Dirichlet Allocation, a kind of machine learning approach for generative probabilistic topic extraction, and the five most mentioned topics were: (a) training service, (b) team management, (c) training organization, (d) workers' work and family, and (e) users' action. Besides, the Jaccard coefficient co-occurrence cluster analysis revealed: (a) the most mentioned collocations were ‘construction safety week', ‘safety first', and ‘construction team', (b) the largest clusters were ‘safety training', ‘occupational health and safety administration', and ‘health and safety environment', (c) the most active users were ‘Parallel Consultancy Ltd.', ‘Pike Consulting Group', and ‘Global Training Canada', and (d) positive sentiment accounted for an overwhelming figure of 85%. The findings inform the industry on public perceptions that help create awareness and develop preventative measures for increased health and safety and decreased incidents.

RESUMO

Purpose - This study aims to investigate how leadership competencies (cognitive, interpersonal, and results-oriented competencies) and four dimensions of organizational learning (knowledge acquisition, knowledge distribution, knowledge interpretation, and organizational memory) contribute to organizational performance of tourism firms. Design/Methodology - Data were collected from leaders working at various tourism establishments in Vietnam - a developing country in the Asia. Smart-PLS software was used to perform structural equation modelling of 638 valid responses. Findings - The results showed that among the three proposed leadership competencies, only managers' result orientation exerted a significant influence on organizational performance. Knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing were fully influenced by the three leadership competencies, while knowledge interpretation and organizational memory were facilitated by the cognitive and outcome-oriented competencies. Knowledge acquisition and knowledge interpretation were positively related to organizational performance. The mediating effect of organizational learning was supported by the existence of knowledge acquisition. Originality of the research - Although the topics of leadership competencies, organizational learning, and organizational performance have received a great concern among worldwide academia, there is scarce research examining the relationships among these three phenomena together. This paper is among the first study that offers a more comprehensive model of the relationship between these domains.

RESUMO

Sustainable development integrates business, environmental, and social objectives into a unified effort to achieve a common goal. Sustainable customer relationship management (CRM) combines company strategy, customer-focused business processes, and computer technologies. From the consumer's perspective, it lowers psychological, energy, time, and other costs;from the company's perspective, it offers a means of engaging with customers to build lasting and reliable relationships. The sustainable CRM program provides advantages to businesses in various industries, particularly online commerce. It alludes to a comprehensive strategy that promotes solid interactions between buyers and sellers of goods and services. Since current customer retention is less costly than new customer attraction in competitive markets, especially online shopping, identifying the factors affecting relationship management with stable customers is essential. This investigation intends to evaluate the effect of the use of management information systems (MIS), as well as insights on employee behavior and knowledge, and customer behavior (satisfaction and loyalty), on the effectiveness of sustainable CRM in online shopping. The model is validated using the PLS–SEM technique, and study sample of 293 employees and managers from private organizations. According to the results, the MIS, employee behavior and knowledge, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty influence the effectiveness of sustainable CRM in online shopping. Furthermore, employee behavior and knowledge positively moderate the relationship between customer loyalty and the effectiveness of sustainable CRM. However, the moderating role of employee behavior and knowledge on customer satisfaction and the effectiveness of sustainable CRM is not confirmed. Overall, taking these characteristics into account might help organizations to take significant steps toward increasing the efficacy of sustainable CRM.

RESUMO

In the academic year 2020-2021, students who had been accepted onto a university in Turkiye began their studies with the use of emergency remote teaching (ERT). The aim of this study is to examine the causal relationship between academic achievement, online course satisfaction, attitudes towards online learning and knowledge sharing behaviors of these novice university students in terms of the emergency remote teaching process. This research was designed to make use of correlational research methods. The study group consisted of 437 freshmen students studying in the Faculty of Education at a public university in Turkiye. Research data were collected using the Knowledge Sharing Behavior scale, the Online Course Satisfaction scale, the Online Learning Attitude scale, and a learning achievement test. Research data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and path analysis. The results showed that general acceptance, knowledge receiving, individual awareness and perceived usefulness significantly affected online course satisfaction. On the other hand, knowledge giving and application effectiveness factors did not significantly affect online course satisfaction. It is noteworthy that individual awareness, which compares face-to-face teaching activities with ERT to identify the preferences and awareness of the students, had a negative impact on their satisfaction. Finally, it was determined that online course satisfaction had a significant but low-level effect on learning achievement. In order to increase student satisfaction with regard to the ERT process, it is recommended that the university makes the opportunities more visible and provide support for students' acceptance of the process. Future avenues and precautions about designing the ERT courses have been suggested in light of the research findings © 2023,Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education. All Rights Reserved.

RESUMO

Knowledge of every organisation is the most important resource, often not fully leveraged by organisations. Moreover, the value of tacit knowledge of an individual is much less understood and not exploited to the desired levels in organisations. It is quite evident when an experienced employee retires from an organisation, he carries away a very valuable chunk of knowledge with him, which is a strategic resource of the organisation. The COVID-19 pandemic and the great resignation times created a sudden loss of experts which troubled many organisations and made the topic of tacit knowledge management very relevant to current times. While PRISMA framework was used for selection of articles among the vast literature using justifiable validation criteria, a combination of bibliometric and narrative methods is used for the process of analysis and summarisation. The relevant papers are obtained using keywords "Tacit knowledge", "Tacit knowledge management", "Knowledge sharing". Overall, 50 relevant and quality papers are picked after systematic filtration and study. The important keywords from these papers are picked and analysed to arrive at six major themes under which all the papers can be categorised. The six themes are tacit knowledge concept evolution, barriers to knowledge sharing, tacit knowledge acquisition process - various methods, role of context in knowledge sharing, enablers for tacit knowledge sharing, and IT for explicit Knowledge capture and reuse. Each of these themes also has sub-themes under which the papers are categorised. The gist of papers under each of these themes/sub-themes is captured in detail, providing key insights under each theme. While literature review papers focus on a certain domain or industry, this work developed a conceptual model using these themes which represents the current literature in tacit knowledge management as a system model, thus making this work complementary to the current body of knowledge. This model is useful in placing any future literature under one of the themes. Future work also can focus on adding additional themes as well as making this model more insightful through continuous improvement. Each of the themes in the model created can be colour coded to represent high and least researched areas, which can be a valuable guide for the future researchers. Future research directions relevant for the current engineering industries are collated from the literature reviewed, detailed under the above themes in chronological order. © 2023 World Scientific Publishing Co.

RESUMO

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to look at the attitudes of the employees in terms of sharing knowledge during COVID-19 in an online environment and the various difficulties associated and to analyze knowledge sharing (KS) in a virtual office setting, using the conservation of resources theory.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative approach was used by conducting face-to-face interviews online through GoogleMeet, Skype and Zoom. A total of 34 interviews from 14 multinational companies (or their subsidiaries), in a supervisory role, were conducted for the study. A thematic analysis was conducted to analyze the responses.FindingsDuring a crisis, the tendency of employees to share knowledge at the individual, team and organizational level increases and is interlinked. The results of this study suggest that during the initial phases of lockdown, the creativity levels among employees were high;however, as the work from the office got postponed because of extended lockdowns, the creativity level of employees saw a dip. Furthermore, the findings of this study also highlighted that KS in remotely located teams was found to be dependent on the extent to which the team members knew each other, such that known teams were in a better position to share knowledge than a newly formed team with unknown or less known members.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has 34 respondents which is an acceptable number for a qualitative inquiry. However, the number of industries could be increased for generalization purposes. Responses were collected from a group of knowledge workers who were willing to correspond digitally, using social media channels of the authors, such as Linkedin. Responses collected personally could provide different results.Practical implicationsThis study provides insights into visible change in organizational processes. The conceptual model developed in this study has several implications which will help chief knowledge officers to understand why the various individual, team and organizational factors lead to KS, particularly with respect to COVID-19.Originality/valueThis study has explored a contemporary phenomenon – KS during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in an online environment. This study depicts the extant literature on knowledge management during a pandemic, thus bridging the scholarly gap. This study tried to bring in a broader perspective by selecting respondents across continents, domains and varied age groups. Fourth, most studies analyzing KS/knowledge hiding in the extant literature, especially during the pandemic, have followed a quantitative approach. This study followed a qualitative approach to gain insights into the KS of the firm and the thoughts and practicalities behind it.

RESUMO

PurposeConstruction management skills and competencies (CMSC) are of greatest importance for the industry to succeed and thrive. Some factors are critical to CSMC development. Hence, following the restrictions occasioned by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, this study reviewed and examined these factors to understand their level of influence in the remote development of CMSC adopted by the industry within and post the disruptions induced by the pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThis study adopted a quantitative and descriptive research method. Data were sourced from 155 completed and usable survey questionnaires with registered and licensed engineering and construction professionals practicing in both private and public sectors in Nigeria. Participants were drawn from the membership database of the Nigeria Society of Engineers.FindingsThe identified critical success factors (CSFs) are categorised into organisational factors which include leadership, engineering project networks and eLearning, measurement and review system, strategy and resources, organisational culture, tradition and structure. In addition to individual factors in this order of influence;willingness to learn, promotion and career development, obtaining certified qualification and obtaining respect of peers are CSFs of remote development of CMSC in Nigeria.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is the first to identify and examine the CSFs to remote development of CMSC tailored to developing countries in Africa. It explored the two categories of CSFs in both remote and traditional CMSC developments and established that the organisational factors remain positively dominants in traditional as well as in remote development of CMSC. It further ranked the individual factors in their order of influence in Nigeria, offered insights into motivation of construction management trainees in developing countries and offered areas of improvements such as quality of training and certification.

RESUMO

PurposeThis study aims to examine the role of organisational commitment (affective, normative, continuance) in influencing employees' knowledge application behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also probes the moderating role of leader–member exchange (LMX) in the association between organisational commitment and knowledge application.Design/methodology/approachThis study used a sample of 206 employees working in various private sector organisations in Brunei Darussalam. Structural equation modelling using Smart-PLS was used to test the hypothesised relationships.FindingsThe findings show that affective and normative organisational commitment spurred employees' knowledge application behaviour significantly during the COVID-19 crisis. However, the moderating effect of LMX could not be established in this study.Practical implicationsThe findings provide managers with insights into the crucial role organisational commitment can play in encouraging knowledge application in an organisation.Originality/valueStudies exploring the enabling factors of knowledge application are scarce, especially in the context of a global crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study develops a model and empirically validates the importance of organisational commitment for knowledge application amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also provides insights for managers into how LMX can affect knowledge application outcomes, particularly during uncertain times.
